  • Metal Braces

    Metal Braces

Metal braces (stainless steel) are the most popular type of braces used throughout the country. If you choose metal braces for your treatment plan, Harmony Orthodontics utilizes the most comfortable, efficient, and technologically advanced metal braces available.

Many patients enjoy having different colors placed on their braces as a means of personal expression and fun. Because it's so simple to change the colors, feel free to swap them at every visit.

  • Ceramic Braces

    Ceramic Braces

Clear ceramic braces are an aesthetic alternative for those who don't want their braces to show as much. Clear braces move your teeth in exactly the same way as metal braces do. Like metal braces, they are extremely comfortable to wear and very efficient at moving teeth.

  • Invisalign

Introducing Invisalign. The invisible way to straighten your teeth, without braces.

A brand new millennium technology has been developed which uses computer scanners and virtual reality to plan the gradual movement of teeth by clear overlay retainer appliances.

Invisalign works through a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners that no one can tell you're wearing. The overlay appliances are constructed via computer with only mm movement of the malposed (crooked) teeth for each clear overlay appliance.

The treatment consists of a series of these clear overlay retainer appliances.

The number of appliances required to straighten the teeth completely varies according to the severity of the malocclusion (bad bite). They are designed to be worn 24 hours per day, with the exception of eating and oral hygiene.

Invisalign can give you the beautiful straight teeth you've always wanted. So, now you can smile more during treatment as well as after.

    What is Invisalign?
    • Invisalign is the invisible way to straighten your teeth without braces.
    • Invisalign uses a series of clear removable aligners to straighten your teeth without metal wires or brackets.
    • Invisalign has been proven effective in clinical research and in orthodontic practices nationwide.
    • Invisalign also allows you to view your own virtual treatment plan when you start, so you can see how your straight teeth will look when your treatment is complete.
    How Does Invisalign Work?
    • You wear each set of aligners for about 2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss.
    • As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move - little by little, week by week - until they have straightened to the final position Doctor has prescribed.
    • You'll visit Doctor about once every 6 weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned.
    • Although the time and total number of aligners needed will vary from patient to patient, total treatment time averages 9-15 months, and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30.

  • Two-Phase Orthodontics Treatment

What is the advantage of two-phase orthodontic treatment?

Two-phase orthodontic treatment is a specialized process combining tooth straightening and physical, facial changes. The purpose of two-phase treatment is to maximize the opportunity to accomplish the ideal healthy, functional, and aesthetic result that will remain stable throughout your life? If you are interested in learning more about this treatment, contact Harmony Orthodontics in Clifton, NJ for more information and to schedule your complimentary consultation.

What if I put off treatment?

Putting off treatment can result in a need for more invasive treatment later in life that may not completely fix your smile. Early treatment is most effective for achieving lasting results.

    Phase One

Your foundation for a lifetime of beautiful smiles

The goal of Phase One treatment is to help the jaw develop in a way that will accommodate all of the permanent teeth and improve the way the upper and lower jaws fit together. Children often exhibit early signs of jaw problems as they grow and develop. An upper jaw that is growing too much or is too narrow can be recognized at an early age. If children over the age of six are found to have this jaw discrepancy, they are candidates for early orthodontic treatment. Also, if children around the age of eight have crowded front teeth, early treatment can prevent the need to extract permanent teeth later.

    • Planning now can save your smile later

Children benefit tremendously from early-phase treatment. Receiving early treatment may prevent the removal of permanent teeth later in life, or the need for surgical procedures to realign the jaws.

    • Making records to determine your unique treatment

Orthodontic records will be necessary to determine the type of appliances to be used, the duration of treatment time, and the frequency of visits. Records consist of models of the teeth, X-rays, and photographs. During your child's initial consultation, your doctor will take records to determine if early treatment is necessary.

    Resting Period

In this phase, the remaining permanent teeth are left alone as they erupt. Retaining devices may not be recommended if they would interfere with eruption. It is best to allow the existing permanent teeth some freedom of movement. A successful first phase will have created room for permanent teeth to find an eruption path. Otherwise, they may become impacted or severely displaced.

    • Monitoring your teeth's progress

At the end of the first phase of treatment, teeth are not in their final positions. This will be determined and accomplished in the second phase of treatment. Selective removal of certain primary (baby) teeth may be in the best interest of enhancing eruption during this resting phase. Therefore, periodic recall appointments for observation are necessary, usually on a six-month basis.

    Phase Two

    Stay healthy and look attractive

The goal of the second phase is to make sure each tooth has an exact location in the mouth where it is in harmony with the lips, cheeks, tongue, and other teeth. When this equilibrium is established, the teeth will function together properly. Phase Two usually involves full upper and lower braces.

At the beginning of the first phase, orthodontic records were made and a diagnosis and treatment plan was established. Certain types of appliances were used in the first phase to correct and realign the teeth and jaw. The second phase begins when all permanent teeth have erupted, and usually requires braces on all the teeth for an average of 24 months. Retainers are worn after this phase to ensure you retain your beautiful smile.

  • Orthodontic Retention

Here at Harmony Dental Arts we offer 3 retainer options after you complete your orthodontic treatment. If you don't want to have fixed Retainer bonded to your teeth just mention it to us. We would like to insure that your spectacular smile will last a lifetime!

    Hawley Retainer

The Hawley Retainer includes a metal wire that surrounds the Teeth and keeps them in place. It is anchored in an acrylic arch that sits on the roof of the mouth. The advantage of a Hawley Retainer is that the metal wires can be adjusted to finish treatment and continue moving teeth as needed.

    Invisalign Retainer

The Invisalign Retainer fits and looks like a regular aligner, however, it's much more durable and lasts longer. The Retainer is completely transparent, therefore far more difficult to detect than traditional retainers.

    Fixed Retainer

A Fixed Retainer typically consists of a passive wire bonded to the tongue-side of the incisors. fixed Retainers cannot be removed by the patient. It may lead to tartar build-up or gingivitis due to the difficulty of flossing while wearing these retainers. As with dental braces, patients often must use floss thread to pass dental floss through the small space between the retainer and the teeth.
